## 1. Understanding the Fundamentals of Photon Information Processing

At its core, photon information processing, often referred to as optical computing, uses photons (light particles) instead of electrons to represent, store, and manipulate data. This fundamental shift offers several potential advantages over traditional electronic computing, primarily in terms of speed, bandwidth, and energy efficiency. Instead of relying on the flow of electrons through circuits, optical computing leverages the unique properties of photons, such as their ability to travel at the speed of light and their immunity to electromagnetic interference.
