## What is Photonic Computing?

Photonic computing, also known as optical computing or light-based computing, utilizes photons (light particles) instead of electrons to perform computations. Unlike traditional electronic computers that rely on the flow of electrons through circuits, photonic computers use light to transmit and process information. This fundamental difference offers several potential advantages, primarily speed and energy efficiency.

The core concept involves encoding data onto light beams and manipulating these beams using optical elements such as lasers, lenses, mirrors, and specialized photonic devices. These devices can perform logical operations, switching, and signal routing using light, mimicking the functions of transistors in electronic computers.
