## What Exactly is a Micro-Factory?

A micro-factory is a small-scale, localized manufacturing facility designed for flexible and on-demand production. Unlike traditional large-scale factories that rely on mass production and extensive supply chains, micro-factories focus on producing smaller quantities of goods, often customized to specific customer needs or localized demand. They are characterized by their compact size, agility, and integration of advanced technologies like 3D printing, robotics, and automation. They represent a shift from economies of scale to economies of scope and speed.

> **EXPERT TIP:** Micro-factories are not just smaller versions of traditional factories. They represent a fundamental rethinking of the manufacturing process, prioritizing responsiveness, customization, and sustainability.
