## Understanding the Fundamentals of Wavefront Computing

At its core, wavefront computing, also known as optical computing or photonic computing, leverages the properties of light to perform calculations. Unlike traditional digital computers that process information as bits (0s and 1s) represented by electrical signals, wavefront computers manipulate light waves directly. This allows for massively parallel processing, where numerous calculations occur simultaneously, significantly boosting speed and efficiency.

Wavefront processing relies on the interference, diffraction, and refraction of light to execute mathematical operations. Specialized optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, and spatial light modulators (SLMs), are used to shape and direct these light waves, effectively encoding and manipulating information. This approach offers several key advantages over conventional digital computing, which we'll explore further.
